- │ QBits 3.18 │
- └────────────┘
-
- Welcome to QBits! It is a new twist on the old standard falling-block
- arrangement puzzles...but you'll find there are significant changes that will
- make this game a wonderful addition to your software library.
-
- Features include:
-
- -Size adjustment to allow the player to determine how big the playing
- field should be.
-
- -Game speed and skill level adjustment to let you play at your own pace.
-
- -Choice of puzzle pieces to be used in the game. No more playing with
- pieces you don't want. You can choose from any of the 24 playable
- puzzle pieces (...but at least 9!), so that you can make the game as
- easy or challenging as you'd like!
-
- ┌─────────────┐
- │ The Premise │
- └─────────────┘
-
- Pretty simple really. Try your best to organize the pieces as they fall
- so that as they fall you will complete a row from one side of the well to the
- other. If you complete a row, that row will be removed and all of the pieces
- above will be moved down one level - effectively giving you more room to move.
- ***Bonus points are scored when you knock out three (3) rows at once.

- │ Beginning the Game │
- └────────────────────┘
-
- To begin the game, simply type QBITS in the directory containing the
- program files. This is not restricted to a special directory, so the files
- can be placed anywhere that's convenient for you.
-
- You will prompted from that point on for the information that the program
- needs. If you have played the game before, and have a configuration file
- saved from a previous game, you may proceed with your old settings or choose
- new ones. If no configuration file is found, you have the option to play
- with the default setting of 9 standard pieces or configure game settings of
- your own.
-
- ┌────────────────────┐
- │ Game Configuration │
- └────────────────────┘
-
- You must play QBits with at least 9 puzzle pieces. When you enter the
- puzzle piece configuration screen, you will have the opportunity to choose
- which pieces you wish to use in your games. The point value below each of
- the pieces is the extra value you will receive every time the piece is
- dropped onto the playing field.
- Pressing the Space Bar will place a check mark or remove a check mark
- from above the playing piece. Only pieces that have been "checked" will
- be valid for use during your games.
- Pressing <Enter> during the piece selection process will take you to the
- next step in the configuration process. This will allow you to choose the
- Skill Level, Game Speed, and Well Size to be used.
- Skill Level determines how quickly the game speeds up. For example, the
- game will speed up every time 5, 10, or 15 rows have been cleared, depending
- on the setting.
- Game Speed determines how fast the game drops the pieces inside the
- playing field.
- Well Size allows you to choose how wide or narrow to make the playing
- field and therefore how much "breathing room" you give yourself.
- The scores will vary based on the settings you choose. A wide well is
- easier to place pieces in, and it's harder to play at higher game speeds or
- skill levels. Points scored for 75 rows in a challenging high-paced game
- will be higher than 75 rows in an easier game.
